Warm white suits bedrooms and living areas. Cooler white suits kitchens, laundries and workspaces. Pick one per room so the light matches.
Dimmers
Not every LED fitting works with every dimmer, and a mismatch can flicker or hum. Choose dimmable fittings and let the electrician match the dimmer.
How many lights
More downlights isn't always better. Spacing and beam angle matter as much as the count.
Switching
Hallways and stairs are easier with a switch at each end. Open-plan areas often work better split into zones you can switch separately.
What affects the quote?

Can old halogen downlights be swapped for LED?
Usually. The electrician checks the existing fittings, transformers and cut-out sizes before quoting.
Do I need an electrician to change a light fitting?
If the job involves connecting or disconnecting wiring, yes. In WA that has to be done by a licensed electrician. Changing a globe is fine to do yourself.
What affects the cost?
The number of fittings, ceiling access, wiring changes and fitting choice all affect the electrician's quote.
