Ceiling fan installation
Tell us whether the job is for one room or several, whether a fan is replacing an existing fitting, and anything known about the ceiling or switch position.
Free to get a quote
Getting a quote costs nothing, and you're under no obligation to accept it.
Licensed and insured
Every partner is a licensed electrician with public liability insurance. We won't send anyone who isn't licensed for the work.
Electricians who work locally
We pass your job to a vetted partner who covers your suburb and does this kind of work.
Why get your ceiling fan quote through Sparky Local?
Several rooms, one quote
Most fan jobs cover more than one room. List them in one enquiry and the electrician can quote them together.
A local partner electrician
We pass the job to a partner who covers your suburb and installs fans. You don't have to ring around to find one.
Chosen for tidy work
Fans hang in the middle of your ceiling for years. We work with electricians we'd have in our own homes, and we choose them on the quality of their work.
What you can ask about
- New ceiling fan installation
- Replacement of an existing fan or fitting
- Fans for several rooms
- Wall controls, remotes and switch changes
Have these ready
None of it is required, but it helps the electrician understand the job sooner.
- How many rooms, and whether each fan replaces a light, an old fan or nothing
- The fan model, if you've bought one
- Ceiling height, especially if it's raked or unusually high or low
- Whether there's roof space above (single storey, or the top floor)
Choosing the right fan
Size for the room
Blade span should suit the room. A small fan in a big living area moves little air, and a large one in a small bedroom can feel like too much.
With or without a light
If the fan replaces your only ceiling light, you'll want a fan with a light or other lighting in the room. Decide before the electrician arrives.
Ceiling height
Blades need to sit high enough above the floor to be safe. Low ceilings may need a close-mounted fan, and high or raked ceilings may need an extension rod.
Controls
Wall control, remote or app. Many DC fans come with a remote. Tell the electrician what you've bought so they can plan the switching.
What affects the quote?
Getting a quote is free. Every home is different, so we don't publish a set price; the electrician quotes after assessing the job, the site and the equipment involved. These things move the price most:
- Existing wiring and mounting point
- Access to the ceiling and roof space
- Fan model and control arrangement
- Number of rooms and any new circuit work
Common questions
Does it cost anything to get a quote?
No. Getting a quote through Sparky Local is free, and you're under no obligation to accept it. You only pay the electrician if you decide to go ahead.
Can I request several fans?
Yes. Tell us how many rooms are involved and whether the fans are already chosen.
Can I supply my own fans?
Yes. Say so in the enquiry and include the model so the electrician can check the mounting and controls.
Can the existing light be replaced?
Often, but the electrician needs to assess the existing fitting and wiring.
Can a fan go where there's no light point now?
Usually, but it needs new wiring. How easy it is to get into the roof space above affects how much work that is.
Are the electricians licensed and insured?
Yes. We only work with licensed electricians, and every partner carries public liability insurance. You won't be sent someone who isn't licensed for the job.
