Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) Charging — Southern Perth
Vehicle-to-home charging lets you use your electric vehicle as a giant home battery — discharging stored energy from your car's battery to power your home during peak tariff periods or grid outages. In Australia, V2H is commercially available for Kia EV9 owners using the Wallbox Quasar 2 charger. If you own or are considering a V2H-capable vehicle, Sparky Local can assess your home's electrical setup and install a compliant bidirectional charging system.
What we handle:
- Wallbox Quasar 2 V2H charger installation
- Dedicated bidirectional charging circuit from switchboard
- Switchboard assessment and upgrade if required
- Home energy management system integration
- Solar and battery system V2H coordination
- Western Power notification for bidirectional metering
- Certificate of Electrical Compliance

How it works
- 1
V2H eligibility and site assessment
V2H requires a compatible vehicle, a compatible bidirectional charger, and a switchboard that can handle the reverse power flow. We confirm your setup is V2H-ready before quoting any installation work.
- 2
Dedicated bidirectional circuit installation
A V2H charger requires a dedicated circuit sized for bidirectional power flow — this is different to a standard EV charger circuit. We install the correct cable size, protection devices, and conduit run from your switchboard to the charger location.
- 3
Charger mounting and connection
The Wallbox Quasar 2 is mounted and connected. We configure the energy management settings including discharge triggers, minimum state-of-charge limits (to protect your EV battery), and grid interaction rules.
- 4
Western Power notification and certificate
Bidirectional grid-connected installations require specific notification to Western Power. We handle this and issue your Certificate of Electrical Compliance once the installation is tested and confirmed.
Common questions
Which EVs support vehicle-to-home in Australia?
As of 2026, the only commercially available V2H combination in Australia is the Kia EV9 with the Wallbox Quasar 2 charger. An AGL V2G trial is also underway involving Hyundai, Kia, BYD, and Zeekr vehicles — but this is a trial, not a commercial product available to the general public yet. Tesla V2H is not officially supported in Australia.
What is the difference between V2H and V2G?
Vehicle-to-home (V2H) means your EV powers your house directly, independently of the grid. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) means your EV can export power back into the electricity grid, earning you money or credits. Both require bidirectional charging hardware. Most current Australian V2H installations are V2H only — V2G is still in trial phase.
How much power can a V2H system deliver?
The Wallbox Quasar 2 delivers up to 7.4kW AC — enough to run the average Australian home's essential loads (fridge, lights, Wi-Fi, fans, devices). It won't run heavy loads like ducted air conditioning or electric cooktops simultaneously, but it keeps your home functional through outages or high-tariff periods.
Will using V2H damage my EV battery?
Modern V2H systems have protections to prevent battery degradation — including minimum state-of-charge limits that stop the battery from discharging below a set threshold (typically 20%). We configure these limits during commissioning. Regular V2H use is designed to have minimal impact on long-term battery health.
How much does V2H installation cost?
Wallbox Quasar 2 installation in Perth typically costs between $3,500 and $6,000 depending on cable run length, switchboard condition, and whether any switchboard upgrade is needed. The charger unit itself is a significant component of the total cost — we provide a full itemised quote.
Is V2H worth it in Perth with Synergy's current tariffs?
V2H makes the most financial sense if you're on a time-of-use tariff and can discharge your car during peak periods. With WA's current flat tariff structure, the primary benefit for most Perth homeowners is backup power during outages rather than tariff arbitrage. This is still highly valuable for many households.
